Harp problems WURLITZER 214

Postby mike lawton on Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:32 am

HI.
I gather Adam is a expert on this problem.

I have a Wurlitzer 214 piano.
I have been in the process of regulating and tuning piano.
Several reeds on bass harp and treble harp sounded dud with little sustain.
Naturaly i replaced the reeds at some cost. Problem still there.
The next bit is the difficult bit.
I have discovered that the reed fault is definately coming from the harps.
I have painstakingly tried to level shimming out and adjust harps to eliminate problem.
I CAN NOT GET ALL REEDS TO RESONATE PROPERLY.
When harp screws are tightned down some reeds sound better but others go out.
Could it be the whole the action assembly not seating correctly on keyboard bed that is causing problem?
It seems to be the harp twisting or straining when tightend down
IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM?
COULD THE HARPS BE FAULTY AND BEYOND ADJUSTING?
I would be grateful for any advise.
Regards
Mike.
It is a shame as everything else is ok.

This problem has been mentioned before, here:

No answer there either.

I have the same problem, except it clearly starts at the treble harp. The notes up to the 3rd E have plenty of sustain, but starting at the 3rd F the sustain drops a lot, and the notes sound muffled.

Anybody seen/heard this before?
